Summary:
The Portuguese Anthropological Association, in collaboration with other scientific and technical organizations, research centers and university departments, namelly the Administration and Public Policies Center is preparing a study on the situation of anthropologists in Portugal, regarding their research activities and career paths.
This study not only aims at establishing a baseline of knowledge on the anthropology that is practiced in Portugal, but also aims at collecting data that can be used for defining job profiles, serving as a framework and crossing with the evaluations carried out by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology, to support the reflections and revisions of academic curricula and the creation of new curricula and training in anthropology.
The project includes not only a survey addressed to all members of the anthropological community in the country (graduates, researchers, teachers), but also data recollection on research in anthropology, the presence of the discipline in higher education and training institutions and employers the situation of university courses in anthropology at present. The first results of this investigation are expected to be disclosed and discussed in the next APA Congress in 2016.
The lack of systematized and updated data about the reality concerning the anthropologists in Portugal has hampered efforts and initiatives that have sought to develop for better visibility and affirmation of anthropology.
